First Display at APA/AIA Chicago, 3 January through 6 January 2008

To accompany the academic panel "Classics and Comics" (coordinated by C. W. Marshall, UBC, and George Kovacs, U Toronto) and sponsored by the Outreach Committee, the APA held a graphic artwork competition centering on the Ceres/Proserpina myth. Our inspiration was the Art Deco statue that crowns the landmark Chicago Board of Trade building.

The contest received over thirty entries from twelve US states and Canada. Three age groups are represented: • K-7th Grade (up to 13 years of age) • 8th-12th Grade (up to 18 years of age and • Adult, for high school graduates, undergraduate and graduate students, academics, practicing graphic designers and the public-at-large.

The three First Place winners in each category will have their artwork published in an upcoming issue of Amphora, the outreach journal of the American Philological Association.

Below, you can see how the posters, which are durable and professionally printed, were displayed in a busy lobby in the Hyatt Regency, Chicago, conference center.
